Music City P.L.A.Y.S. is a movement to get kids active and give them the opportunity to BE AN ATHLETE. The objective of Music City P.L.A.Y.S. is to educate our families about the science of Long-Term Athletic Development and to facilitate the art of outdoor free play, multi-sport participation, and foundational athletic development.
The desired outcome of Music City P.L.A.Y.S. is to educate and provide opportunity for every child in Nashville to be physically literate by the age of 12. Science, research, and decades of experience all point to the same thing: kids and adults will get active, stay active, and even reach the greatest heights of sports achievement if they do the right things at the right times. This is the logic behind Music City P.L.A.Y.S and Long-Term Athletic Development. Physically active kids are 1/10 as likely to be obese, score up to 40% higher on tests, are 15% more likely to go to college, and have 7%-8% higher annual earning potential.
Music City P.L.A.Y.S. is the first step to delivering a conceptual framework that helps stakeholders from across sectors understand how they can work together to serve the interests of children, communities, and public health.
