NASHVILLE, Tenn. - On Sunday evening, the Lipscomb Women’s Soccer team will make the short three mile drive over to West End Avenue to take on the Lady Commodores of Vanderbilt. These Nashville natives are very familiar with each other’s programs. The two teams have been known to battle at the beginning of every season before conference play begins.
The Lady Commodores (4-4-0) will be looking for redemption against the Lady Bison (1-3-2). In 2016, Lipscomb shut out Vanderbilt 2-0. Lipscomb has been known to give SEC teams trouble in the past as Coach Kevin O’Brien has built up a strong program at Lipscomb. Last year, Lipscomb defeated Mississippi State along with Vanderbilt. This year, the Purple and Gold have tied SEC opponent Auburn and are looking for their first win against an SEC opponent this season.
In order for Lipscomb to hold its status in Nashville, the Lady Bison will need to get through Vanderbilt’s goalie Kaitlyn Fahrner. The red-shirt senior has had a powerhouse season with her record amount of saves. This record awarded her the SEC Defensive Player of the Week. Vanderbilt will be looking for a win before they start conference play next week.
The showdown between these Nashville natives will happen on Sunday, September 10 at 7 p.m. at Vanderbilt Soccer/Lacrosse Stadium.
Admission is free for all home Vanderbilt Women’s Soccer Games.
